Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS Released

Ubundu,a wel known linux OS. The second maintenance release of Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) was released. This release includes updated server, desktop, alternate installation CDs and DVDs for the i386 and amd64 architectures. Kubuntu and Xubuntu have also released their 10.04.2 versions.

What is maintenance edition?

Every LTS edition of Ubuntu is supported for 3 years for desktop edition and 5 years for server edition, as opposed to 18 months for non-LTS releases. Hence a large amount of updates are delivered to users using LTS edtions. Hence maintenance releases of LTS editions are released with latest updates applied.

Existing Lucid Lynx users need not do anything. They receive updates regularly. But new installations of Ubuntu 10.04 should use 10.04.2 CD for installation to avoid downloading large number of updates after installation.

10.04.2 includes updates which fixes a total of 911 bugs since the 10.04.1 release. So keep this in mind while installing Ubuntu 10.04 from now on.
